In short

  • The words that come up in the guide and the app, explained without taking anything for granted.

From A to Z

.env
A text file in the project with settings and secrets (like the database password), one KEY=value line each. It must not go into Git.
Action
A named project command, started and stopped from the “Run” section.
Addition
In the “From a base” wizard, an extra piece to add to the base (Tailwind, React, a database, tests).
AI agent
A command-line assistant that works in the project folder: it reads, edits and runs commands. In the kit: Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, Pi.
API key
A secret code that lets you use a service (for example an AI model) paying as you go, without a subscription.
Backup
A file with the whole content of a database, to put it back as it was.
Base
The starting point of a project created with a framework or a CMS: Laravel, Vite, Django, WordPress…
Clone
Copy a Git repository to your computer, with all its history.
Commit
A save in Git's history: a set of changes with a message.
Component
A program the kit can install: a language, an agent, a database, a tool.
Console (terminal)
A window where you type commands. The kit's one is PowerShell 7 with the kit's tools; on macOS and Linux, if PowerShell is not installed, it is bash.
exFAT, FAT32, NTFS
Disk formats. NTFS (Windows) lets you protect folders; exFAT is read by Windows, macOS and Linux; FAT32 does not accept files over 4 GB.
Extension
An add-on for the editor that makes it able to understand a language or do new things.
Framework
A ready-made structure for building a type of application (Laravel for PHP sites, Django for Python…).
GGUF
The file format of the local models llama.cpp uses: a file (sometimes in parts) with the model's weights compressed according to a “quantization”, for example Q4_K_M.
Git
The program that keeps the history of a project's changes.
GitHub, GitHub CLI
GitHub is the online service that hosts Git repositories; GitHub CLI (gh) is its command-line program.
Hash
A code computed from a file's content: if the file changes by even one byte, the hash changes. It is used to verify that a download is the right one.
Kit folder
The folder that contains the Atollo executable, projects and data.
Local models
Language models that run on the PC, with no network and no account, with the kit's llama.cpp server. You download them from the AI page, “Local models” pane; Pi and the chat in the browser use them.
localhost, 127.0.0.1
The name and address a computer uses to call itself. A name ending in .localhost always leads to this PC.
MCP (MCP server)
Model Context Protocol: a standard way to give agents new tools, through a program or a service.
Minor version
The first two parts of a version: for PHP 8.4.3 the minor version is 8.4. The kit keeps one folder per minor version.
Open VSX
The free extension catalog used by VSCodium.
PATH
The list of folders where the system looks for programs when you type a command.
Path alias
An address of the site that serves a different folder, for example /media → storage/uploads.
Pi
The terminal agent by Earendil (Mario Zechner), the kit's fourth: it works with the local models, with no account, or with a cloud provider chosen with /login.
Pool
A web server (Caddy or Apache) shared by several projects, each with its own .localhost name and its own conf.d folder.
Port
A number that tells services apart on the same computer: http://localhost:7100 and http://localhost:7101 are two different sites. In the kit each port belongs to one thing only (an action, a pool, a version of a database); 7000-7099 belong to the editor.
Project
A folder inside projects. The kit recognizes its type from the files.
Proxy
An intermediate server that Internet traffic goes through, common in company networks.
Push, pull
Sending commits to the remote repository (push) and receiving them (pull).
Repository
A project managed with Git, with its history. It can live on your computer and on GitHub.
Server profile
A pool you create on the Web Servers page, with the versions and port you choose.
Skill
A written procedure an agent loads when needed, in a folder with a SKILL.md file.
Token
A secret code that proves a sign-in already done (GitHub, Claude). For AI models, “token” is also the unit used to count text and usage.
VirtualHost
A site inside a web server, recognized by the name you call it with.
VSCodium
The free version of Visual Studio Code: the kit's editor.
