Frequently asked questions
Does it work without the Internet?
Yes, for everything already installed: projects, databases, sites, editor, consoles. The Internet is needed for component downloads, for commands that download packages (npm, Composer, pip) and for the AI agents, which talk to the provider's servers.
How much does it cost?
Atollo is free and open source (MIT license), like the components it downloads. The AI agents require an account or an API key from the provider, which may be paid.
Does my code go anywhere?
The kit sends nothing: no telemetry, and the tools have telemetry turned off. When you use an AI agent, however, the code you have it read is sent to the model's provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google), under its terms. The summary is in Settings › “Privacy”, with the link “Read the privacy policy”.
How do I uninstall Atollo?
Close the app and delete the kit folder (after putting the projects you need somewhere safe). There are no registry entries or installed programs to remove. The system's temporary folder is cleaned on closing.
Can I keep projects outside projects?
The Projects page shows only the folders inside projects. To work with the kit's tools on any folder of the PC use the Terminals page (The kit's terminals (3.4)), which opens consoles anywhere.
Can I use another editor?
Projects are normal folders: you can open them with any editor. But the kit's tools (Node, PHP…) and the project's versions are ready only in the kit's consoles and editor, because it is the kit that prepares their environment.
Does Atollo replace Docker?
No, and it does not include it. It uses native programs for each system, lighter and without an administrator. If a project has a compose.yaml or a Dockerfile, the kit reads them only to suggest the right versions (PHP, Node, MySQL…).
Can I have two kits?
Yes: each folder is an independent kit, with its own projects, sign-ins and settings, and two kits can be open together. The same kit, however, opens only once.
Does it work on a network drive?
Yes, but it is slower: the programs read many small files. With “Temporary files of programs” set to “Automatic”, temporary files go to the PC's disk anyway.
How much space does it need?
The initial selection takes about 1.8 GB. Each language adds from a few tens to a few hundred MB (the Android SDK and TinyTeX more), each extra version as much again. Projects with their dependencies (node_modules, vendor) grow over time. The Tools page shows the size of each component.
Do the tools update themselves?
Atollo does (if you leave automatic update on); the components do not, you update them from the Tools page. See Updates and backups (7.3).
Why doesn't the AI page open the agents?
Because an agent always works in a project: you open it from the Projects page, with the button that shows the agent's logo. The AI page, Agents pane, is for sign-in, limits and what the agents share; you install them from Tools.
